Fine engraved map with hand-coloring, centerfold as issued, blank verso. Image Size: 16.25 x 22 inches This map depicts the East Indies with countries named and in contrasting colors. The map locates India and Ceylon (Sri Lanka) to the West and extends past Canton, China in the East. Also depicted are the Kingdom of Siam (Thailand), the Malaya peninsula, the regions of Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam, as well as the island of Sumatra and western portion of Borneo. The inset, top, provides an enlarged view of ''The PHILIPPINE ISLANDS''. Topographical features are shown and major cities, towns, islands, mountains, deserts and waterways are identified. Additional comments are found in the map, including “Wild People inhabit these Hills” (Kingdom of Pegu) and “Hendons a Savage People” (near Azmir). A scarce and finely detailed map of the region from the mid seventeen hundreds. This is an original map, about 250 years old, not a reproduction, and it is in very fine condition as shown in the photos. Map comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
