Description: Welcome to Earlycoppercoins! I am the owner, Shawn A. Yancey, and I am a member of ANA and Early American Coppers, EAC #4647. I am pleased to offer the following item: From the New Cumberland Collection of 1793-1814 US large cents, complete by Sheldon Variety S-1 through S-295 including several NC varieties! NCC-246: 1801 NC-4 Draped Bust, Normal Reverse, R7-, PCGS Fine Details, EAC F15 net G5. Stacks lot #425 from 11/16/12, described as: “1801 Draped Bust Cent. NC.4. Rarity-7+. Fine Details--Environmental Damage (PCGS). An extremely rare die pairing which is almost impossible to find. The edge damage is located right at the bust tip where a sharp dent has pushed back copper just into Liberty's bust. Further examination finds slightly rough surfaces and a few small localized patches of red patina--one between RY of LIBERTY and on the reverse to the wreath and past UNITED in that small field area. Given the rarity and overall definition this example may be one of the finer to exist overall, but that is left to the keepers of the census here. What is evident is that this is an exceptional rarity and highly desirable as such. While the surfaces are better than average they still have moderate challenges. The recent sale of the Dan Holmes Collection coin in VG-7 scudzy managed to bring $7,763 which is probably comparable and marks a point of value to compare to the present coin. Certainly a highlight of any advanced collection with the number known perhaps 6 or 7 today with this recent discovery coin.” Recorded in Numistudy V6 as #62306 F15 net G4 Scudzy and tied for CC6-7 of now 12 known examples. I am going to strongly disagree with Bill on this one; I can see the photos for the other examples, and in my opinion, this coin should be F15 net G5 Minus and tied for CC3-4. Look at my photos, the Stacks photos, the PCGS photos, and Numistudy and see if you don’t agree with me – you will! Regardless, this is a tough one! PCGS Genuine Env. Damage F Details S-NC-4 #36263.97/26590140. Ex-Stacks 11/16/12:425:$2,585; Shawn A. Yancey via CVM 07/21/17. Thank you for checking out this item!
