Description: New Old Stock Vintage Gold Solid Brass Cadillac Crest Sideview Mirror Backing. This 5" Diameter piece appears to be handmade and is something that most people probably have not seen before. Bearing in mind that Sideview Mirrors of this time during the 1937-1947 time era were accessory items that were special ordered through Cadillac Dealerships, I woul wager to guess that either General Motors or an enterprising machine shop was attempting to manufacture this style mirror in solid brass. Purchased several years ago at the Granby (Quebec) International Car Show (the "Hershey" of Canada), it is a rather mysterious piece. The logo is 1930s. Circular etched around the circumference and mid section. Mounting Hole dead center for stem mounting. Brass did not take well to the near 1/4" bend as there is a 1-1/8" crack at the bend around the 5:30 o'clock position. Almost appears to be a proto-type idea that was scrapped -just guessing. I would say that somebody or entity was very serious at one time about manufacturing a Gold Brass Sideview Mirror for the vintage Cadillacs of this time period. Truly unique and unusual.
