Description: Manufacture de Sèvres - Pair of vases model Delhi with a polychrome floral decoration, 1852 This hard paste porcelain vase was created in 1852 by the Sevres factory as indicated by the mark below the base “S52” It was executed based on a model designed by Jules Peyre, a draftsman and sculptor at the factory, in 1851. Called “Delhi” or “Persian bottle”, this form is indicative of the fascination of Western decorative arts with the Middle East in the 19th century. Both vases are signed “Hurten” and depict impressive realistic polychrome floral decoration in realistic polychrome on a plain white ground and with gilt paintings on the top rim and ring on the neck. One vase is in excellent antique condition and one has a sort of “chip” in the base as can be seen in the photos. The chip is a bit rough without notice due to being gilded with exactly the same gold tone as the base of both vases. Otherwise, there are no other cracks, flaws or restorations.
