Here we have a third edition copy in a handsome full leather prize binding. Octavo, pp. xvi, 265, with a frontispiece (with tissue guard) and text illustrations throughout depicting ornithological subjects after Bryan Hook. In a handsome contemporary prize binding of full calf gilt, the spine embellished between five raised bands. The upper board bears the gilt stamp of St Paul’s Prep School, St Colet Court, London. Marbled edges and endpapers. With a presentation label dated 1891 affixed to the reverse of the upper board. The binding is rubbed at the extremities but remains tight and firm. The spine label, which would have been of red morocco, has been lost. The marbled edges are a little darkened. The interior is in splendid condition with only one or two spots to the endpapers. Contracted services from the NHS are budgeted at £6.98 million, meaning that £3.52 million needs to be raised through donations, fundraising activities and trading.
