Description: Antique 1915 WW1 Service Library Mechanical Drafting by H. W. Miller. - A detailed handbook on technical drawing containing information on all aspects of mechanic drafting with black and white illustrations throughout. - Bookplate inside front cover indicating it was part of the WW1 United States War Service Library. TheLibrary War Servicewas established by theAmerican Library Associationin 1917 to provide library services to American soldiers training in camps and serving overseas inWorld War I. Between 1917 and 1920, the ALA raised $5 million from public donations, erected 36 camp libraries, distributed 7 to 10 million books and magazines, and provided library collections to more than 500 locations, including military hospitals. In 1918, a librarian at Camp Meade wrote the following to a reporter about his troops' need for books: "We are having repeated calls for technical handbooks and textbooks. We want all kinds of engineering handbooks, mechanics handbooks, books on engineering and books on all branches of the service. They cannot be too technical for the men." - Reasonable condition for a book over a century old. There is surface wear to the cover and discoloration on the first two pages and back leaf. I noticed a mark on the Chapter One page, but the rest of the pages are clean. There are cracks to the spine at the begining and end of the book. See photos for more details. Measurements: 7 3/4" x 5" x 5/8" (225 pages)
