Description: Hi there, I'm selling this beautiful First World War, British Sweetheart Brooch. It's rather small and delicate. From the net, thanks to atlasantiques: "A scarce original Great War period 'Patriotic sweetheart brooch'. A gilded brass miniature rifle ,with a soldiers peaked cap mounted on the barrel. The sling below is set with red, white, and blue patriotic glass stones. The reverse is impressed with the maker's details 'T&H' and 'Reg.641091', a registration design and patent date of 1914. This lovely brooch is complete with its original pin fittings, complete with all the stones. " Please see the photos and feel free to ask any questions. It measures just under 5 cm by 2 cm. It is in good condition for its age, but I think it's losing its gold from the cap, and the garland is slightly bent. The clip has lost its spring but still works. "They were called sweetheart brooches because they were often given as romantic keepsakes by members of the armed forces to their wives and girlfriends before they left for the front."
