Soft metal, probably a pewter or lead alloy of some sort.Box measures 2" X 4-3/4" X 1-1/4" and has a hinged lid. Lid and sides show wonderful cast scenes with trees and cottages. Multiple scenes including an image that shows a lady under a tree with her dog, and another showing a man and woman together on a tree-lined lane. Great detail in this older piece with a silver painted finish over the cast metal. Lid opens to show a single curved out area for stamps and other desk accessories. Bottom has a steel plate attached with four (4) small screws. Condition:Moderate scratching and some loss to the original paint from age. Lid hinge works properly.
