Description: This is a visually striking and impressive Antique Old American Pennsylvania Regionalism WPA Gothic Church Oil Painting on Masonite, by seldomly seen 20th century American Regionalist painter, James Gamble. This work depicts a stoic and imposing Gothic cathedral at night, painted from a perspective of looking upward. The impressive building takes up nearly the entire image, with storm clouds visible in the left and right corners. Signed and annotated in the lower right corner: "Remodeled Jan. 2/52...James Gamble." I am not sure where this church is located, or if it still exists, but it is likely somewhere in Pennsylvania where the artist was known to be active. Perhaps you recognize the building? Approximately 32 1/4 x 50 inches (including frame.) Actual artwork is approximately 30 x 47 1/2 inches. Good condition for decades of age and storage, with expected scuffing, edge wear, and mild paint loss in a few areas throughout (please see photos.) Shipping costs will be unavoidably high due to the large size of this piece, however Free Local Pickup from Los Angeles County, California is also an option. Acquired in Southern Texas, United States. This is one of the best American Regionalism paintings that I have ever owned. Priced to Sell. If you like what you see, I encourage you to make an Offer.
