Description: Here we have a set of 2 Antique Pastille burners by Staffordshire which was a major pottery center in Europe due to the abundance of local clay and coal in the 19th century. Pastille burners were ceramic containers used to burn aromatic Pastille to cover up unpleasant odors at that time. Pastille burners were often modeled after cottages, dollhouse and other popular subjects of the time. Popular with the middle and lower classes in the late 18th and early 19th century. Here are 2 cottages sitting on a vintage Blue Ridge Pottery plate. I believe pattern is Prairie Rose plate is 9" across One ceramic cottage is 6.25" tall by 4.25" wide and the smaller one is 4" by 2.5" wide. The bigger one has a lot of crazing which is normal for its age.
