It is a dwarf variety that's identifiable by its uniquely shaped leaves, thin red stems, and compact form. The leaves are tender and delicious, which isn't always true of the green-stemmed variety. Plant Background Information: The scientific name for red-stemmed Ashitaba is Angelica keiskei koidzumi. Ashitaba has been used as a medicinal herb in East Asia for centuries and is thought to have numerous health benefits. Ashitaba means “tomorrow's leaf”; it is regarded as a “reiso”, which means “mysterious or mystical plant” in Japanese. It is a fast growing plant.
