Description: This is a signed photograph of the Americanastronaut Bruce Edward Melnick (born 1949). Melnick served in the United States Coast Guard, from which he retired with the rank of Commander.He was the first Coast Guard aviator to participate in the space program, and was the first Coast Guard aviator into space. During his Coast Guard service, Melnick received numerous awards, including two Defense Distinguished Service Medals, two Distinguished Flying Crosses, and the Secretary of Transportation Heroism Award. Melnick spent more than 300 hours in outer space while serving on two missions. He was flowninto space on board the Space Shuttle Discovery, and later on board the Space Shuttle Endeavour.
