This toile is from France and it dates from the first quarter of the 19th century 1800-1825 ~ It's a rare and wonderful treat. This toile is called " Joseph" and was designed by Francoise Pieters . This toile has a fascinating story ( please see below) This toile is part of the vein of stories of opera and biblical subjects were in full fashion in the early 19th century. The Favre et Petitpierre factory also produced a printing on this subject in 1810 a toile de Nantes. This is a lovely piece, hand stitched and hand quilted with a light batting between the layers!~ I love the central motif " chastity of Joseph" being pulled by a beautiful woman, feet almost touching!~ such character and history in these toile textile!~~ MEASUREMENTS: This wonderful panel measures approximately 28 inches by 24 inches CONDITION: This lovely fabric is in as found , not freshly laundered condition and it can be hand washed and hung to dry. It is faded with time, ~ The backing is grubby , if you were planning to frame it, I recommend not washing, however if you plan to use as a pillow etc, I recommend gently hand washing and hanging to dry ~*~ Inventory : Toile 2061 JOSEPH Toile: Joseph toile : ~ Four captioned scenes relate to the story of Joseph a character from the Old Testament, son of Jacob. Joseph predicts that this corresponds to seven years of scarcity and seven ears of abundance, this gaining the trust of the pharaoh .
