East Aurora, New York: The Roycroft Shop,(1908-15). Fourteen of Twenty volumes. Tall quarto, original three-quarter red leather, four raised bands, gilt- and blind-tooled spines, top edges gilt, uncut. This is part of a limited printing of 1000. LOT: #329 of 1000, with 14 of 20 volumes numbered and SIGNED BY ELBERT HUBBARD. Printed on Roycroft hand-made paper. Red Leather Spine with four raised bands and a tooled Art Deco style design in black with gilt lettering. T.E.G. Untrimmed. Portraits in photogravure throughout. Printed in exquisite typography, on Roycroft hand-made paper, with three-color initial letters designed by Dard Hunter and decorative devices throughout. Each “journey” is accompanied by a delicately etched portrait of the subject either by Gaspard or Schneider. The spines of the volumes are bound in red leather, and some of the volumes are worn on the spines. There is mostly light in some volumes, and others have only an occasional spot. Some of the volumes show wear on the leather binding; however, the pages are in good condition. The bindings of each volumes are excellent. Spine tips or corners and all volumes except for volume 8 have rubbed on the top three of the four raised bands. Volume 10 has the worst rubbing on three of the four raised leather bands. Volumes 5 and 19 have some white or cream substance on the cover. Most of the joints are in good condition, and the top of the paper still retains much of the gold appearance. All papers are printed on thick, rich Roycroft paper. It is still a very nice, attractive set. Volumes include 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 16, 17, 19 and 20.
