Description: "KING" and "DRUM" Drummer Magazine Comic Strip Insert by Bill Ward About: Not to be confused with the American straight artist by the same name (William Hess Ward 1919-1998), Bill Ward was a gay graphic artist born 20th August 1927 in East London. His publishing career began as a copyboy in newspaper publishing before becoming an art editor for children’s comics and then a graphic artist. He worked as a graphic artist for Amalgamated Press and Fleetway on childrens’ comics, notably their Thriller series (November 1951 – May 1963). In 1957 Bill had his first gay illustrations published anonymously in the British physique magazine Male Classics and he would later work openly for American magazines such as Drummer where this insert was published. Dimensions: 11.5 x 8.75 when fully folded (intended format), 11.5 x 17.5 when bi-folded, 23 x 17.5 when unfolded. Condition: Item is in good condition given its age. There are signs of wear, with yellowing and crinkles around the edges (see photos). This item has some damage such as stains, fading, and scuff marks (see photos).
