Description: This is a custom figure tribute to one of the most colorful gangsters in history, Ellsworth Raymond "Bumpy" Johnson. Bumpy's nickname stems from the fact that he had a bump on the back of his head. Bumpy Johnson was born 10-31-1905. Johnson's early years were in South Carolina. His family feared problems due to Johnson's temper and feeling towards whites so, Johnson was sent to live with his aunt in Harlem in 1919. Johnson met and became an associate of Harlem numbers queen, Madame Stephanie St. Clair. By the time Johnson was thirty he had spent almost half his life in prison. Upon release from prison in 1932, Bumpy learned that notorious gangster Dutch Schultz was trying to take over the numbers racket in Harlem. This touched off a bloody conflict which resulted in Schultz's murder in 1935. The murder of Schultz had been sanctioned and arranged by Charlie "Lucky" Luciano and the National Crime Syndicate. Luciano took over the Harlem numbers racket upon Schultz's death. Shortly after Schultz's death, Bumpy Johnson negotiated a deal for the Harlem numbers bankers to remain independent and retain their businesses as long as they paid their taxes to the Italian Mob. Bumpy was an instant hero in Harlem and rose to power through the association with Luciano. His criminal career has inspired movies and television about his life. This figure would make a nice addition to any collection. This figure was done mainly for display. While the figure does not look exactly like Bumpy Johnson there is a bit of a resemblance. stand included. sold as is.. Please note the following-when a figure is a custom figure that means it is not a licensed product,or "official" but something the customizer did by combining figures and accessories from different makers and toy releases to come up with the custom figure or figures. I started customizing figures a few years back because I couldn't find more than a handful of "official" releases and unable to find figures of people I wanted to collect. I checked in to the market of custom figures. Most of the custom figures available back then cost several hundred dollars, so, I started doing my own. Because I needed to support my new hobby, I started selling some custom figures. My prices reflect my acquisition cost, time involved, and some profit. Thanks for the look, have fun shopping!
