Description: Original Indian War Era US M1873 Trowel Bayonet w/2nd Pattern Leather Scabbard - Excellent Condition - RAREUp for sale is an Original Indian War Era US Model 1873 Trowel Bayonet with a 2nd Pattern Leather Scabbard. This bayonet has the "Pat Apr 16 - 72" marking on the side of the socket. This bayonet will fit the M1873 Trapdoor rifle. The blade and socket are in Excellent Condition. A no nicks or chips along the edge of the blade. The bayonet is approximately 14.5" overall length, with a 3.5" socket and 10 1/8" blade. It also includes the 2nd Pattern Leather Scabbard. The leather on the scabbard is soft and supple, a few minor nick and scuff marks on the scabbard. The scabbard has a brass tip at the end and a brass hook at the top of the scabbard. Some scuffing of the leather that secures the brass hook. The only visible marking on the scabbard is A.R.S. on the inside top of the throat of the scabbard. These bayonets are quite RARE if they have an original scabbard. The scabbards are very RARE.This bayonet will fit the most of the later US Trapdoor Muskets & Rifles.
