In these cases, we will include all the research, photo matches if available, and any other pertinent information we find on the helmet.GAME-USED HYBRID – A helmet that was game-used or team-issued, information about who it is associated in not available. Often in these cases, we take that helmet and refurbish it as a reproduction of a particular player. It is a reproduction using an actual gamer.PROJECT – A helmet not associated with a particular team that may be ideal for a project helmet or for parts. HOWEVER, THE “53” WRITTEN INSIDE IS CONSISTENT WITH THE EQUIPMENT STAFF PROCEDURES OF AT THAT TIME. - IN 1984, THE YEAR THE HELMET IS DATED, NUMBER “53” WAS ATTRIBUTED TO CENTER RAY DONALDSON. - I ADDED THE APPROPRIATE “53” ON THE BACK. AND I WAS ALSO FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO HAVE AN ORIGINAL (NOT RE-DIPPED) SCHUTT NJOP FACE MASK ON HAND BACK THEN. (DATED “FHD” WHICH EQUATES TO 5/84). - THE PICTURE AGAINST THE CHICAGO BEARS COULD VERY POSSIBLY BE THIS HELMET. HOWEVER, IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT THE HELMET IS FROM 1984, AND THE GAME PICTURED WAS DECEMBER 8TH, 1985. (IRONICALLY, THAT WAS THE SECOND BEARS GAME I EVER ATTENDED. PAYTON SET AN NFL RECORD FOR THE MOST CONSECUTIVE 100-YARD GAMES THAT DAY. SO THAT WAS PRETTY COOL!) - ALSO, UPON CLOSER SCRUTINY, I NOTICED THE TOPS OF THE HORSESHOE DECAL, IN RELATION TO THE UPPER VENT HOLES, ARE IN SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT POSITIONS. THE WARNIG LABEL ON THIS HELMET ALSO APPEARS TO BE SLIGHTLY TILTED COMPARED TO THE ONE PICTUREDAGAINST THE BEARS. - THE ONE COMP THAT SEEMS TO BE DEFINITEVLY CORRECT, HOWEVER, IS THAT THE HOLE FOR THE SIDE MOUNT FACE MASK CLIP SEEMS TO BE IN THE EXACT SAME POSITION IN PROXIMITY TO THE EAR HOLE ON BOTH HELMETS, AND WITH NO OTHER DRILL HOLES PRESENT. ALL THAT SAID, IF THIS IS THE HELMET PICTURED, I BELIEVE THE DECALS ON IT PRESENTLY, WERE APPLIED SOME TIME AFTER THE 12/8/85 GAME AGAINST THE BEARS.
