Description: Here is a small blue and white transferware saucer decorated with the image of Carisbrooke Castle sitting high at the heart of the Isle of Wight. Under the detailed image of this historic structure in cursive is "Carisbrooke Castle 1792". Made by Johnson Brothers of semi-porcelain, this saucer is part of the Old Britain Castles Collection of dinnerware crafted in England from 1930 to 2003. From the backstamp style, I'd say this is mid-century. The delicate-looking little tray intended to a be a demitasse cup companion would make a sweet trinket tray or coaster. It measures 4 1/2" in diameter with 3/4" high sides. The condition is very good with no chip or cracks. There are light center scratches, seen with a magnifier, and light crazing mainly on the backside. The underglaze backstamp in blue with crown logo reads "Johnson Bros England, Old Britain Castles". A thick painted B or 8 is over-applied along with a small indented symbol. Thanks for looking.
