NEW 2023, AND AVAILABLE NOW FROM PICACHO PEAK COLLECTIBLES! The ‘Panzerfaust’ (translated as ‘tank fist’) was a family of single-shot, man-portable, anti-tank rockets that came into German service in 1943. It consisted of a light, recoilless launcher tube with a pre-loaded, high-explosive, anti-tank warhead protruding from the muzzle, much like a ‘fist’ hence the name. It was a cheap to manufacture and easy-to-use anti-tank weapon for the ordinary infantryman being issued to single soldiers in addition to their personal weapons. Firing was done from under the arm at an upward angle as its effective range was just 30-60 meters (about 35-65 yards). Development began in 1942 and continued until the final days of WWII. This King & Country three-man section is each armed with their own Panzerfaust. As one kneels down and takes aim another moves forward and the third watches to see the success or failure of the first ‘shot’. All three are dressed in the ‘mixed rig’ combination of camouflage jackets, trousers and feldgrau uniforms of 12th Division at that time. MINT CONDITION IN THE ORIGINAL KING & COUNTRY BOX! HISTORICAL QUOTE: "In war there is no second prize for the runner-up."General Omar N. Bradley HISTORICAL / EDUCATIONAL NOTE: THE HJ TROOPS The HJ in Germany, was the youth organization of the German Political Party and its origins date back to 1922. From 1933 until 1945, it was the sole official youth organization in Germany and was partially a paramilitary organization; was composed of the selected German male youths aged 14 to 18. The German youngsters in the H. Youth (Deutsches Jungvolk in der HJugend or "DJ", also "DJV") for younger boys aged 10 to 14, and for girls it was the League of German Girls (Bund Deutsche Mädel or "BDM"). Originally intended to foster the ideology of the German Party, with the rise of the Führer the organization shifted its focus to become a paramilitary organization training young boys for service in the Reich. Membership in the HJ in 1923 was just over 1200, however by the end of 1933 the number was 2.3 million youths and by 1936 the number in the HJ exceeded 5 million. HISTORICAL / EDUCATIONAL NOTE : 60 M PANZERFAUST ("ARMOR FIST" OR "TANK FIST") ANTI-TANK WEAPON The Panzerfaust ("armor fist" or "tank fist") was an inexpensive, single shot, recoilless anti-tank weapon used by the German Army and Waffen-SS troops during World War II. It consisted of a small, disposable pre-loaded launch tube firing a high-explosive anti-tank warhead, and was intended to be operated by a single soldier. The Panzerfaust's direct ancestor was the similar, smaller warhead Faustpatrone ordnance device. The Panzerfaust was in use from 1943 until the end of the war. The weapon's concepts played an important part in the development of the later Russian RPG (Rocket Propelled Grenade) weapon systems such as the RPG-2. Most notably, the RPG-7 added a sustainer rocket motor to the projectile.
