Description: Kiyoshi Saito Signed Book And Very Early Original (???) Oil On Canvas Paintings. I'm not 100% sure what I have here? When my aunt was in hospice, she asked me to bring her father‘s (my grandfather‘s) scrapbook and in the scrapbook were these Kiyoshi Saito books and paintings. Apparently my grandfather and grandmother met him at a showing, and got the signed copy of the wood cut print book and so happens that my grandparents lived very close to Kiyoshi Saito. My grandmother visited him at his studio and he gave her the Kodansha book with the Steady Gaze: Cat print in it. He also gave her the three 8x10 oil paintings of the three trees on another visit. My grandmother was never allowed to frame or hang the paintings because my grandfather was jealous. She had them hanging on the walls with tacks in her studio. *****UPDATE***** After talking to my brother either my aunt mis told me or I mis remembered, but these were never hanging in my grandmother's studio. They were hanging in Kiyoshi's studio. They were never allowed to be displayed in my grandparents house. When my grandfather died in 1973, my grandmother took the paintings and the books and put them in the scrapbook. I know these paintings are nowhere near his style, but apparently in his early years, he experimented with oil paintings and told my grandmother that he painted these when he was young? I know my grandmother wouldn’t put these paintings in with the Kiyoshi Saito books if they were not painted by him. My grandmother acquired them in 1957 or 58. I know it’s a very high auction starting price and buy it now. I’m kinda hoping somebody will tell me what I have. i’ve been holding onto these for four years now I think it’s time for someone else to appreciate them.
