BACKGROUND: The U.S. Naval Aid Auxiliary (NAA) was established during World War II to assist the United States Depart of War in maintaining a series of stations across the country to provide temporary housing and entertainment for servicemen and sailors during their rotation from one location to another. They received a large portion of their funding from public donations, much of which was raised by many of Hollywood’s biggest stars. Appearing at signings for these specially prepared autograph cards as a fundraiser was popular among the stars. They took little time to sign, were considered very patriotic and greeted enthusiastically by a ready public. The NAA organized the signings of the cards and all signatures were written on specialty printed lithographic paper that bore the NAA name and artwork. They measure 5" x 2 3/4" inches.
