This MCI Classic Transit Bus model features detailed interior and exterior is made of Diecast with plastic parts. This model is officially licensed and features authentic markings and blank white livery. The model is 1/87 scale or HO Scale and measures about 5 1/2 Inches long x 1 1/3 Inches Wide x 1 3/8 Inches High. The Classic was a single-deck bus developed by General Motors Diesel from its previous generation New Look design. The "Classic" was similar to its predecessor, the New Look "Fishbowl" from the belt rail up. The most notable feature of the new design was a revised front-end which allowed for a wider front door, squared-off side windows and a new taillight assembly. The bus was originally intended solely for the Canadian market as an alternative to the unpopular Rapid Transit Series (RTS) but ultimately the Classic, produced from 1982 to 1997, met with widespread success in both Canada and in select American cities including Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver, Santa Monica, Detroit and Salt Lake City. It was available primarily as a 40-foot long, 102 inch wide transit bus, a 60 foot long articulated version of which only 16 were delivered and a Suburban style featuring forward-facing seats with no center exit doors for inter-urban routes. The Suburbans proved especially popular in the New York City area with the MTA and contract carriers like Liberty Lines and Command Bus Service using them. The design was conservative, yet contemporary and less controversial than the RTS. Over its lifespan, the bus was manufactured by three different companies, General Motors, Motor Coach Industries and NovaBus which finally retired the design when it launched the LFS in 1997.
