Description: Presented today we have a shining vintage Elgin calander automatic in all stainless steel. This Swiss timepiece is powered by the caliber 333 which is based on the AS 1913 automatic movement. This movement has been completely disassembled, cleaned, lubricated, and is keeping excellent time. This extremely smooth running caliber is nestled snuggly and securely inside the 34mm wide without the original signed crown and 39mm lug to lug stainless steel case. This finely finished case has multifaceted angular lugs which have the same gleaming polish as the case sides and back. The caseback is a screw down case back which has the Elgin and Stainless Steel notations clear and visible. The bezel surrounding the scratchfree cyclops acrylic crystal has a soft brush finish adding an extra layer of refinement. The crown is original and still has the Elgin E logo but it has faded some over the past 50+ years. The case also exhibits a few very minor signs of age and use but as you can see nothing that would be noticable without magnification. The case with its 18mm wide lugs has been fitted to a period correct vintage stainless steel Spiedel expansion bracelet ensuring a secure and comfortable fit for almost any wrist size. Under the previously mentioned cycloptic crystal is an uniquely patinated white dial. Its circumference is marked with black minute hashes that match the black enamel on the silver polished baton hours markers. The Elgin name is done in an elegant applied fixture and the Elgin E and Automatic notations are done in a dial theme matching black print. The hands are a polished silver set with original lume still present. The date window is highlighted with the Cyclops lens and is positioned at 3oclock with a silver frame outlining it. This date is set with a semi quickset function of advancing the time from 8pm to midnight to change the date. This process is repeated until the desired date has been displayed. The Jackson Pollock esq white dial has been the recipient of a unique splashing of wear and patina. The wear a watch incurs over its lifespan is what makes it unique and this one certainly is that. A very cool spattering marks a center banding of the dial giving it an almost striped or banded effect. Almost like a Rorschach test we can see a lot of images in this inky pattern. If you are looking for that perfect vintage Elgin with a ton of character then look no further. This is the automatic you will want to add to your collection. Bring home this fine and unique Swiss timepiece today. I've tried my best to highlight the condition of this piece with the description as well as photos under a variety of light sources but please read the description and browse the photos to determine for yourself if this is the right watch for you. As a disclaimer for anyone unfamiliar with vintage timepieces I feel the need to also point out that even if gaskets have been replaced that any vintage antique watch should avoid contact with water no matter what the case says. Water tightness cannot be guaranteed after so many years and this must be stated. Any questions feel free to ask. Payment must be made within 24 hours of end of auction and no international shipping.
