Description: Printed 4 Days After GEORGE WASHINGTON Death 1799 Original Worcester Newspaper Offered is an original, collectible newspaper (NOT a copy/reproduction): THOMAS'S MASSACHUSETTS SPY OR WORCESTER GAZETTE, Dec. 18, 1799 * 18th century American original This issue was printed four days after the death of George Washington but with the slow pace of travel the news had yet to reach this newspaper. Inside has: "Dispatch from Buonaparte" and a lengthy: "Answer to the President's Speech" referring to John Adams' annual state-of-the-union address. The back page has a nice "War Department" notice mention that: "All officers...who are...absent from their commands are required...to report themselves by letter to Major General ALEXANDER HAMILTON..." with a bit more. This is the Alexander Hamilton who served again in the military during the Quasi War. Also on the back page is a: "Forty Dollars Reward" ad for deserted soldiers. Four pages, very nice condition.
