*RESTORED w/ SSD* DUAL BOOT Windows 98 / XP Vintage Retro Gaming LAN Box Cube PC

Description: A mixture of brand-new and expertly refurbished used parts. My classic computers are a little more special than the others you see here on eBay. Mine come with new and refreshed versions of their old operating systems, and come loaded with lots of fun games and useful software. I think you will agree that my standard of cleanliness and presentation are a touch above. I have been building PCs for the last 23 years and have built over 300 computers in my career. I used computers like these back when they were new and relevant and have intimate knowledge and experience of how they work. This computer: First off, this is purely intended to be a gaming PC. It's not suitable or appropriate for industrial use. What it is, is my first LAN box restoration project. These cases are a dead form factor from the times when people hung out in person and went to each other's houses. This case has a convenient swing-out carrying handle on the front. I don't really expect or recommend you carry it around this way as the plastic is over twenty years old. But it's in great condition and everything feels solid. I wired the interior so that nothing really moves so that it can be carried without damaging anything. I believe the case was made by Apevia but I'm not 100% on that as it's unmarked. -The motherboard is affixed to a plate (what happened to motherboard plates?) that can slide out of the rear complete with mounted cards if the two screws are removed in back. -The windows are not glass, they are plastic. -The case has two wired temp sensors labeled CPU and HDD, these read out to a backlit LED on the front panel. The CPU sensor was originally affixed to the side of the heatsink which I have replicated in the new build. This does not give an accurate read of your actual CPU core temperature like you would get in the BIOS, but in the interest of giving the front LED screen something to display, I put it back where it was. -The HDD temp sensor was not affixed to either of the new storage devices and is bundled and mounted to the front panel, consider it an ambient case temp sensor. -Front panel audio ports are inoperative due to SB Live. -Front panel Firewire inoperative due to lack of motherboard header. -Exhaust fan replaced with brand-new red LED 120MM fan. Complete disassemble and deep clean of all parts. CPU block and heatsink resurfaced with new thermal paste. The ATX Specialty: Upgraded to modern SATA solid-state storage in place of the original HDD. This provides a quantum leap of response time, speed, and reliability that simply must be experienced in person. Using the legendary Creative Sound Blaster Live! audio card with Gameport. For seamless audio in DOS/98 & XP applications. -Both operating systems are installed in separate partitions on the same drive. They cannot see or access each other's data by design. You are presented with a simple menu at boot with a choice of OS. -This PC includes a secondary HDD with shared access between both 98 and XP. Running Windows 98 SE with the Plus! 98 addition. Mainly cosmetic items from the plus package are installed such as desktop themes and screensavers. Plus also included several now-redundant programs such as mcafee antivirus which I have NOT installed. Includes Peanuts, Doonesbury, Cathy themes etc. My Win98 PCs are also upgraded with the USB driver system from Windows Millennium, which allows them to access USB storage drives like a modern PC. So long as those drives are no larger than 136GB, and formatted in FAT32. Not sure how to do this? A simple text guide is included. This goes double for floppy disks. Many if not all of the computer games from the 90's and 00's are freely available on the internet archive. Mounting CD images is a much better and more reliable way to install old games. SIMS 2 NOTE: This game does not run well on any computer. I've had several of my powerful XP machines returned over the years because of poor performance in Sims 2. This is simply a poorly programmed game with bad optimization that will run with bad framerates on literally any computer.
