Description: Rossetti Jam Jar w/Underplate Occupied Japan Hand Painted Thistles 1946-1952 HTF Exquisite Decorative JAM (MUSTARD, CONDIMENT) JAR w/Lid & UNDERPLATE, Hand Painted Smooth Rim, Trimmed in GOLD, Garlands of Pink THISTLES & Green LEAVES, from Occupied Japan, imported by Rossetti, Chicago,USA, circa 1946-1952 DESCRIPTION: The beautiful hand painted set was produced in a beautiful pattern of pink thistles w/green & lighter green leaves with gold paint on the smooth rim. The color palate used pink and 2 tones of green on the high white of the porcelain. The design looks so classic. The rims are beautifully trimmed in gold as are the handle. This is so eye-catching! CONDITION: While this set is classified as used, the condition is superb. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines. There are no utensil marks or wear on the gold or paint. DIMENSIONS: The jar is 3 1/8" in diameter with a height of 3 7/16". The underplate has a diameter of 4 13/16" and a height of 9/16". The overall height to the top of the lid is 4 7/8". The capacity of the jar is 10 ounces. HISTORY/MARKS: According to the New York Times, the first shipment of post war Japanese goods arrived in New York City on August 10, 1948. The article states that all goods were marked "Made in Occupied Japan." Porcelain china marked "Made in Occupied Japan" or "Occupied Japan" was made between the end of WWII and April 1952 when the occupation by American troops ended. Japan has a long heritage of manufacturing and decorating fine quality porcelain china. This was imported by Rossetti of Chicago, Illinois, USA.
