I used this book in my kindergarten classroom, during the month of January, when we were doing a unit on polar animals. My students absolutely loved it! This item is clean and comes from a smoke free home. The book measures 10.375" x 15.5". The author is Sonia W. Black and the illustrator is Turi MacCombie. The copyright is 2002 and the publisher is Scholastic. This book is a Scholastic "Hello Reader". It is Level 1, Science for preschool - grade 1. The following is a synopsis of the plot of the book.: This book is about the journey polar bears go on from the moment they are born. In this book, a mother polar bear, who has waited in her den for the birth of her twin cubs, teaches them how to hunt and recognize danger. When they are grown, they set out on their own. This book is great for beginning readers. This interesting informational book traces the habitat and lifestyle of polar bears, from the birth of twin cubs, through their infancy, until they leave their mother to seek mates of their own. This educational story introduces early readers to basic knowledge about polar bears with its fun rhyming text and cute illustrations. Children will enjoy reading to understand the life cycle of this specific animal and what they experience. This big book also comes with a "Big Book Idea Booklet". This guide is designed to help adults and children get the most out of the Big Book. In the pages of the booklet there are ideas for before, during, and after reading discussion, as well as 3 rereading approaches to enhance children's literacy learning ("Phonics", "Cloze Reading", and "Picture Clues"). I have not seen any others currently selling online. This book would make a wonderful addition to a preschool, kindergarten, or 1st grade classroom!
