Steel wool (giving it a good rub with fine steel wool (even when new) gets you down to where the brass is most receptive (to whatever your using). 2. dunk in product - "Brass Ager" (until it reaches desired color - under a minute)3. immediately dunk in water4. let dry for a day5. rub it with gun oil (any oil will do)6. if it's not dark enough - repeat but DON'T steel wool all the way to the starting point, just to an even color. If you do NOTHING it will darken but depending how much you touch it - unevenly. (your fingers will "polish" it, whether you want them to or not)
