Description: This beautiful figurine depicts a hen sitting atop a nest surrounded by eggs. Crafted in Staffordshire, England in the Victorian style. Nice antique Staffordshire Hen on Basket Tureen These were popular in Staffordshire England from around the 1850s to the early 1900s. Many different potteries made these and most are unmarked. These were usually made to hold condiments. This Hen on Nest is from the late 1800s. Unmarked. It is simply hand painted and has gold highlights. Antique. Good condition for age. Hen top is in very good condition. There is extra glaze around base of hen pooled but is not a chip. The base has glazing and chips (see pictures) which are hidden when top is on. Possible manufacturing flaws typical of period and production (like stilt marks, bubbles in glaze, sand grit, voids from grit loss, etc.) might be noticed. Nice antique primitive example.
