In the post-Flashpoint era, the DC Universe was a very different place for the characters that inhabited it as well as the readers that followed those characters, and Suicide Squad made good use of the new elements while incorporating the best of what came before. Artist Ryan Benjamin's cover featuring HARLEY QUINN with her sharper "New 52" looks captured the attention of longtime fans as well as many curious new ones, while Adam Glass' initial story-arc "Kicked In The Teeth" garnered excitement for old reveals that would be given fresh "New 52 spins." Thus, the modern incarnation of the SUICIDE SQUAD was born, and the series' early success would inspire DC Entertainment's first Suicide Squad (2016) motion picture, which in turn would beget a second (2021).
