Description: The Bell Jar, Sylvia Plath, Faber & Faber, first edition thus, first print, 1966; with ownership inscription of Sylvia Plath's daughter (with Ted Hughes) on the front free endpaper. Extremely hard to find in this condition. A particularly fine copy, clearly kept in the Hughes household in a sheltered place and not disturbed. Unread, unused, with entirely clean black cloth boards with firm spine foot and spine tip; no rubbing, corners still very firm; bright and vibrant title, author name and publisher to spine in gilt. Unhandled. No reading lean, entirely square. Light spotting to top edge of text block, occasional light spotting to the fore-edge. Very light offsetting to the rear free end paper. Internally: pages are very clean, bar very occasional and light spotting to the page margins. Largely immaculate. Jacket not price-clipped, no tears. Jacket verso entirely unmarked; light marks to edge of right inner flap, otherwise exceptionally clean. The ownership inscription makes the book highly collectable. The dust jacket is not price-clipped. In lovely condition, with no tears or creases. A few light marks along top edge of rear inflap; a few stains to verso, some light rubbing to the spine edges and foot, otherwise a particularly fresh and crisp example. With slip of paper with writing in Frieda's hand that says: 'Plath 1966 Faber HB The Bell Jar'. Provenance: from Frieda Hughes. Provenance can be supplied.
