THE CARETAKER'S DAUGHTER 1925 Charley Chase, Katherine Grant Silent Film Comedy

Description: Vintage original 11x14 in. US lobby card from the popular 1920's two-reel comedy short, THE CARETAKER'S DAUGHTER, released in 1925 by Pathe and directed by Leo McCarey. Produced by the Hal Roach Studios, a pratfalling husband (Charley Chase) bickers and battles with his wife (Katherine Grant). But Charley's combative relationship with her is nothing compared to the "gun-man who has served two years in jail for shooting a few friends" (George Siegmann) and who enters Charley's life to wreak even greater havoc. After Charley abandons his decrepit jalopy to a used car lot, he then convinces the gangster to buy the car, which promptly falls to pieces. Charley finds himself in even deeper hot water when he helps out his boss (William J. Kelly) who has been flirting with the gangster's wife (Symona Boniface) by whisking her away to a remote mountain cabin to hide. The gun-man is soon on her trail and an ongoing roundelay of hijinks ensue as the wife and Charley - both disguised as the lodge's caretaker (James Parrott, Charley Chase's brother) hide from her husband, with Charley's own jealous wife soon joining the comic melee. The image features an interior medium shot inside of a rustic cabin as The Young Married Man (Charley Chase), wearing a Chinese-themed hat with round glasses, is pointing at his wife (Katherine Grant) while his look-alike (except for a fake mustache), eyes the animal in her arms as The Young Husband's Boss (William J. Kelly) sits at the head of the table. It is unrestored in very fine condition with one pinhole in each corner and a small printing error in the top half of the left border. There are no tears, stains, or other flaws.
