Description: Offered here is a First Edition/Second Printing of John Updike's first novel, The Poorhouse Fair. Published in February of 1959 by Alfred A. Knopf of New York. No DJ. Updike's first novel , set in the Diamond County Home for the aged. Condition: Good. Sound binding. Hinges firm and unsplit. Some very tiny indentations to front board at bottom and some fade lines to top and bottom of boards. Pages lightly toned, clean and tight. (A bit of foxing spotted on one page). Some erasure marks spotted on three pages. The only real issue with this book is the pastedowns. It looks as though at one point perhaps some sort of cover was glued down to them??? There is also a whited out bookplate on front pastedown. Someone tried to white out the paper remains on pastedowns too. (Both pastedowns pictured above). No DJ.
