They also received the active cooperation of President Franklin D. Roosevelt in recruiting pilots for these plans from the U.S. flying services. This plan was the creation of a retired Air Corps officer, Claire Chennault, who believed that the Chinese had to have help in the air to have any chance of defending themselves against Japan. His recruits were called th American Volunteer Group; they were to become famous around the world as the Flying Tigers. Their story is one of the most colorful legends of the war. Although they did not see combat until after Pearl Harbor, in the next seven months they ran up the amazing total of 286 confirmed kills for the loss of only 12. Coming in a period of sweeping Japanese conquests, their early victories were a much-needed ray of hope for the Allies. Shipping We will ship anywhere in the USA and Worldwide!
