Description: Beautiful carved soapstone (steatite) pieces. The figurines measure between 2.25 inches and 4 inches tall, beautiful hand carved wood board which also serves as a carry case. The carvings include: foo dog, serpent, dragons, and Phoenix birds. The board measures 9“ x 18“ x 2.5“ closed and 18 in.² when fully opened. The board folds in half using antique Asian motif brass hinges and can be carried using the to Asian motif brass handles. On either side of the board are two drawers, each with one set of chess pieces. Please note the straps that are used to hold the pieces in place have loosened a bit over the years and no longer function to hold the pieces in tightly. The game board itself is made of hand carved porcelain or bone tiles that are also handpainted in various traditional Chinese scenes and motifs. There are a few scuffs on that wood, but overall in great condition for the age of the set.
