Description: This pair of vintage dolls are Mr. and Mrs. Social Security by Stuart Inc., St. Paul, Minnesota. They are made of fabric and wire making them bendable and posable. They each come with their own little wicker chair for displaying. The woman is knitting, while the man is reading The Wall Street Journal. A novelty gift for someone getting ready to retire, Grandma and Grandpa, or a doll collector. Dolls are in great vintage condition; however, the Grandpa doll's newspaper is brittle and beginning to come apart. Dolls measure approx 11" tall while sitting in their chairs, and each is about 5" across with the chair. These dolls were part of my mother's collection of dolls. Her notes indicate they were previously owned; she bought them in 1974, which makes them over 50 years' old. Another posting I found dated a similar pair circa 1960's.
