VINTAGE WW1 M1886 FRENCH LEBEL BRASS HANDLE CRUCIFORM ROSALIE BAYONET & SCABBARD This WW1 French bayonet is a M1886 Lebel brass handle cruciform Rosalie bayonet and scabbard. The M1886 introduced the distinctive cruciform blade, which remained a feature of most French bayonets until 1956. The bayonet design underwent many revisions during service history. The very first model is identified by a brass grip with a very small steel tang rod shown on the pommel of the bayonet. This was swiftly replaced with Nickel grip with a much larger tang nut one allowing easier disassembly of the bayonet in field workshops. After WWI had started, the need to conserve Nickel resulted in the grips being made again out of brass, which is what this example is. This bayonet also was shortened post 1916, so it now has a 13 1/4" long blade, with an overall length of 18". The brass handle has been polished. This bayonet is in good condition with some wear from use. The scabbard is in fair condition. Bayonet Blade Length: 13 1/4 in. Bayonet Overall Length: 18 in.
