The maintaining power feature keeps power to the movement during the winding event so that no time is lost. The glass tablets are a higher grade than those used in the earlier versions of this model. All brass (except for movement) have been polished and coated with clear gloss lacquer. The original Waltham shellac (stained) finish was liquefied and flattened to keep the color the same. Several new clear coat shellac layers were then applied to restore depth to the finish. The surface was rubbed out to a lustrous glow using a modified French Polish process. This exquisite ageless clock makes a great addition to any clock enthusiast's collection. SHIPPING:Clock is shipped in a custom built WOODEN CRATE WITHIN A PADDED BOX for Safe Delivery. Integral chambers ensure the weight, pendulum bob, eagle, and key cannot get loose and cause damage to the clock. The clock itself is wrapped in acid free tissue paper over a thin polyurethane foam wrap and floated within the box by polyurethane foam blocks and sheets. This option is a good solution for those who know they will be moving often (as in military personnel), or as a way to ensure the clock can be safely passed down to family members when shipped to them. Instructions are included for the packing of the clock within the crate and reassembly later. An example of the crate is shown in the pictures. The panels and gusset plates are glued and screwed together with only the top panel being removable. As an aside, if transporting the clock as luggage on a plane you need to separate the dial and weight shield from the case so that it can be easily reviewed by TSA else it will cause quite the commotion and significant delay in getting to your flight. As you can see in the example crate photos, the dial and weight shield are packed on the top just under the top crate panel. I say this from my own experience.
