Description: WW1 British Army Officers Verners Pattern MkVII Compass & Case Lt J.N Hudson RGA Genuine period compass & leather case as used by Lt John Newton Hudson who served in the Royal Garrison Artillery during the First World War. The compass is a Verners Pattern MkVII and features a mother of pearl dial, transit lock and bearing lock. John Newton Hudson was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Garrison Artillery in December 1916, SPECIAL RESERVE OF OFFICERS. The undermentioned, from Officers Cadet Units, to be 2nd Lts. (on prob.): — ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY. 25th Nov. 1916 John Newton Hudson. Published in the London Gazette 8th December 1916, issue 29853 page 11975. He was later promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY. The undermentioned 2nd Lts. to Lts.: — 25th May 1918. J.N. Hudson. Published in the London Gazette 28th June 1918, supplement 30772 page 7697. The compass is in good original condition with the hinged lid and sight fully operational and all glass components are undamaged. The compass points north, however due to its age I cannot guarantee 100% accuracy. The bottom is manufacture stamped Cary, 7 Pall Mall, London, MkVII (denoting Verners pattern Mk VII) and a name Daniel. The leather case features the name 2nd Lt J.N.
