Description: This is a fine First World War French Croix de Guerre in its original box and on original ribbon that is in excellent condition. The cross is of bronze with a stippled pattern on the obverse and reverse of the arms. The front disk features the relief image of the French Republic in the form of the bust of a young woman wearing a Phrygian cap surrounded by the circular relief inscription “RÉPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE”. The reverse is with the dates, ‘1914’ over ‘1918’. The original ribbon is strong and with vibrant color. Affixed to the ribbon is one bronze star indicating a mention in dispatches at the regiment or brigade level. The ribbon is complete with dual pin attachment at the top. The decoration is housed in its original maroon cardboard box which has all the corners intact. It is worthy of note that every Croix de Guerre awarded carries at least one citation for gallantry or courage to a member of any rank of the French military or allied army. It was one of the most coveted awards for gallantry during the First World War. It remains in excellent to near mint condition.8903
